Do puppies bite often and do they hurt? (never had a dog before)?

Do puppies like the maltese (which is probably what i'm getting) bite or harm their owners often. If so, do the bites hurt a lot and are they really dangerous? The puppies will be vaccinated though. Thanks ! :)
